Interesting Facts about the New PM of Nepal - KP Sharma Oli

Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, 63 years old, has been elected as the 38th Prime Minister of Nepal defeating the Sushil Koirala. The Parliament of Nepal has elected its new PM after the adoption of new Nepal constitution 2072 and when there is violence across the Nepal by Madhesi and Tharu communities in Southern Terai and Western regions of Nepal.
He is preceded by Sushil Koirala, 37th PM of Nepal. KP sharma oli has been in Nepal politics since 1966 and also served as Deputy PM in Interim government formed in 2006.

Few Facts about New PM of Nepal:

1. Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli is the current 38th PM elected by Parliament of Nepal
2. He is the leader of Communist Part of Nepal- Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML)
3. He won the Jhapa-7 seat in 2013 Constituency Assembly election as a CPN-UML candidate.
4. There are total 587 legislative members in the Parliament of Nepal and no-one is allowed to be neutral while voting for the PM.
5. He garnered 338 votes, 39 more votes than the 299 votes that is needed to be elected as the PM of Nepal. While, the former PM- Sushil Koirala could only secure 249 votes.
6. It is interesting to note that Mr. Sushil Koirala was elected as the PM in 2014 with the support of Mr. KP Oli party i.e. CPN-UML.
7. Mr. KP Oli was backed by UCPN-Maoist, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic and some fringe parties, while four Madhes parties in the United Democratic Madhesi Front had supported NC leader Mr. Koirala.
8. He has served as the Home Minister in the Adhikari Cabinet (Manmohan Adhikari, PM from 1994-1995) and has also been made Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs during the Interim Government formed in 2006 after People's Movement.
9. He has been in Politics since 1966 and elected to the Pratinidhi Sabha from Jhapa in 1991, 1994, 1999, 2008, 2013.
10. He was born on 22, February, 1952 in Terhathum district of Nepal, and follows the Hindu religion.

- He has been elected at the crucial time of Nepal facing the violence by Madhesi communities in various parts of Nepal. Nepal is also in diplomatic standoff with India who has alleged of blocking the supply of essential goods including petroleum products and blockade of International border and trade due to the violence in Nepal.
